MUNGO PARK ARCHITECTS - PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY

Mungo Park Architects is a general architectural practice, based in Gloucestershire. The practice’s office typifies its approach to architecture. Its new construction is a blend of modern design with traditional form. It is set within a newly designed landscape which celebrates its rural setting. In its design philosophy MPA falls within a broadly modernist field. Much of our work is involved with the appropriate repair of historic buildings. We believe that the central skills of good design are transferable, and that fluency in ancient and modern techniques can often allow one to complement the other.

MPA believes that good design is the most cost effective element within the construction industry; bad design the most costly in social and financial terms. We provide a personal architectural service, tailored to the needs of each client, to ensure that the legacy of their project is one of high quality, and not solely a financially driven expedient.

From over 20 years of general practice experience and academic work, MPA approaches each client’s requirements with creativity and confidence. We give specific advice to clients in the arts and leisure sectors nationally, having worked on a number of significant projects. We provide general architectural consultancy, design and procurement services to private clients and public authorities throughout the west midlands and the south west.

MPA believes that a thriving general practice sector is essential in maintaining the breadth of skills required by a healthy architectural profession. Increasing specialisation and selectivity, while they may serve short term aims, lessen the overall compass of architectural knowledge, and make the profession more vulnerable to the dangers of economic change.

MPA provides experienced, practical architectural advice at a reasonable cost. One of the strengths of small general practice is that every job is closely monitored by a senior partner, giving a level of service and experience that is hard to match in larger organisations.

We are committed to sustainable principles, in the belief that architecture and the construction industry has a major role to play in reducing the amount of embodied energy consumed in the UK. This approach often provides solutions which are more satisfactory than conventional ones in design terms and more economical in construction and in use.

Mungo Park is a member of the Association of Consultant Architects, and the practice is included on the Gloucestershire County Council register of consultant architects.
